Hi Internets. I need to take an informal poll. How many of you out there are constantly tired? Is this just a symptom of growing older? I mean, I figure… yeah, I'm an old fart now. But I'm not THAT old. And I swear to god, sometimes I get eight hours of sleep and 2 – 3 hours into the morning I'm tired again.
I am so tired of being tired. It's draining.
whimper whimper whine
It's not debilitating fatigue; I've had mono and I know what that feels like, but it does seem consistent. So I'm wondering…
How many of you feel the same way?
Is there a certain amount of sleep you need to feel completely rested? What's that number?
How old are you (you can lie here (within reason)) and when did the constant tiredness start for you? (if it did)
How many kids do you have and does that have anything to do with it? (I'm guessing, yes.)
Basically, I'm trying to figure out if this is par for the course/a symptom of general stress or if I need to go to the doctor for some sort of happy wake up pill. For the record, I do get exercise and eat pretty OK. Although I think I'm getting arthritis.
Any insight you all could provide would be awesome! And if I need to suck it up, you can tell me that, too. – the weirdgirl
I’ve been dealing with weird tiredness for about a year now myself, and I don’t think it’s normal (I’m not even 30 yet) and my doctor doesn’t think it’s normal, either, but he can’t seem to figure out what is going on.
So I’m not much help, because I’m in the same boat. But at least we might commiserate?
I am tired a lot, but I stay up later than I should at night. I usually only get about 6-7 hours of sleep at night. Sometimes less.
I’m in my 30s. I have 3 kids, the youngest is 15 months. My kids rarely sleep in when they could, and want to sleep when they have to get up. I get insomnia before any sort of event …my mind doesn’t shut off.
I would definitely go to the doctor though if I were you. It could be something with your thyroid and medication can help.
I was dealing with tiredness for a long time – and found I need to change my medication AND my diet.
(Of course, when I’m under extreme stress, I still need a daily nap.)
Have your thyroid checked (low thyroid can make you constantly tired, even if you sleep enough). Depression can make you constantly tired (even if you sleep enough). Stress can make you depressed, which can make you tired (even if you sleep enough). Have your bloodwork done (full panel, CBC, including iron). A low grade infection, low iron (and of course, being PG) can make you tired (even if you sleep enough). -Lyra
Thanks you guys! It sucks that we’re all in the same boat. I should clarify a couple things… I’m on thyroid meds already, but for hyperthyroid not hypo. Which, according to the doc, means I should be full of energy. Ha ha. My last test showed I was in normal range. And I’ve been on prenatal pills forever so I assumed my iron was OK. Maybe I should double check that. It sounds like I should schedule a doctor’s appointment.
I’ve been also having a lot of stiffness in the mornings. Does anyone out there have any form of arthritis and how tired does it make you?
Last time I felt like that I had a physical and the doc noticed I had anemia. Low iron levels can make you feel like that.
I am also incredibly tired all the time. I get probably 5-6 1/2 hours of sleep a night. I’m 36 and have been this way for maybe a year or two. Honestly, I rarely feel NOT-tired. I could put my head on my desk right now and fall asleep if I wanted to.
But honestly, a checkup is never a bad idea.
Yeah low iron and blood sugar issues can make you tired. If it’s bad enough to wonder if you should see a doc, you should prolly go get a workup, just to see. My dad had fatigue and long story short, it was cancer. I’m not saying you have cancer but there’s a lot of imbalances that are totally fixable and are masked my fatigue.
Though I blame kids. š
I’ve been tired a lot lately, too. But it’s my own problem as I stay up entirely too late anymore.
huh. I used to be tired all the time & I now know it had to do with the under active thyroid problem. Getting woken up at night & staying up late really screws with me these days (I used to be able to handle that, so I would say that has to do w/ being old). I am stiff in the mornings – but once I get up and moving around, it goes away (this is also fairly new, like for the past year or so). Also, when I get down/depressed, I feel like all I want to do is sleep, but I can tell that is a different sort of tired, more malaise, you know?
Check with your dr., I think you shouldn’t feel that tired all the time. Hope you get some answers and relief!
